About Omoluabi Words
A Yorùbá word-search game for learners and heritage speakers
Omoluabi Words helps you practise authentic Yorùbá vocabulary through themed word-search puzzles. Each theme packs everyday words — family, food, greetings, nature, and more — into four difficulty levels so you can build fluency one board at a time.
The name draws on the Yorùbá ideal of ọmọlúàbí: a person of good character, responsibility, and cultural grounding. The game is part of the Omoluabi project, which builds tools and experiences around Yorùbá language and culture.
How to play
- Read the clue at the top of the board. On Level 1 you usually see the Yorùbá word itself; higher levels use English prompts or harder layouts.
- Drag (or swipe) across connected letters in a straight line — horizontal, vertical, or diagonal — to highlight a word.
- Match the full word with correct diacritics (tone marks and special characters). Wrong paths do not unlock the word.
- Clear every prompt on the board to finish the level. Score more points by finding words sooner; Reveal finds the answer for 0 points.
- Play the free Daily board for a new puzzle each calendar day. Finish it to keep a streak. After you complete a board, share the link so friends can try the same layout.
- Level 1 of the first theme is free. Other levels and themes unlock with a short rewarded ad, or permanently with Pro.
Themes and skins
A theme chooses which Yorùbá words you practise. A skin only changes colours and background. You can switch either anytime from Settings without losing the idea of the puzzle — only the vocabulary pack and look change.
Why diacritics matter
Written Yorùbá uses tone marks and dotted letters (ẹ, ọ, ṣ) that change meaning. For example, igbá (calabash) is not the same as ìgbà (time / period). Omoluabi Words keeps full diacritics on the board so practice matches how the language is actually written.
When you learn a new theme, notice how high, mid, and low tones appear on vowels. Matching the marked form — not a stripped ASCII guess — is part of building accurate reading skills.
Sample vocabulary
Everyday Life and similar packs include words such as ilé (house/home), omi (water), ọmọ (child), ìfẹ́ (love), and ọwọ́ (hand) — depending on the theme. Each board mixes familiar items with words you may not use every day, so review and replay help retention.
