Greetings vocabulary (Ìkíni)
Updated 2026-09-11
A short guide to the Greetings theme — morning, afternoon, and evening forms, plus please and thank you.
Time-of-day greetings
Yorùbá greetings often track the part of the day. Ẹkáàrọ̀ is used in the morning, ẹkáàsán around midday and afternoon, and ẹkáalẹ́ in the evening. Polite plural/honorific forms with ẹ- are common when addressing elders or groups.
In Omoluabi Words, the Greetings (Ìkíni) theme packs these into word-search boards so you rehearse the written forms until they feel familiar.
Courtesy words
Ẹṣé (thank you), jọ̀wọ́ (please), káàbọ̀ (welcome), and ó dàbọ̀ (goodbye) appear across daily conversation. Àlàáfíà (peace / well-being) is often wished on a household or asked after in “how are you” exchanges.
Pẹ̀lẹ́ is a compact word of concern — said when someone stumbles, strains, or meets small misfortune. Learning it early helps you sound caring, not only correct.
How to use the theme
Play Level 1 with the Yorùbá surface forms visible, then climb levels that hide the answer behind English or Yorùbá questions. After each session, greet someone in your household with one new form from the board.
Open the Greetings theme from the Themes screen anytime — progress is tracked per theme so you can return without resetting everyday life or other packs.
